Key Quotes

“St Louis Fed President, James Bullard (non-voter in 2015 FOMC) who was speaking on financial regulation in Washington, said that now may be a good time to start raising rates for the ‘boom time’ ahead. He warned there are significant bubble risks if rates are kept at zero bound for too long. Bullard expects unemployment rate to fall below 5% but he thinks that the strong USD is not likely to derail growth at all.”

“New York Fed Executive Vice President Simon Potter who was speaking at the Money Marketeers Meeting in New York, said that the Fed is prepared to implement rate hike when receiving order to act, and that money markets remain important for policy transmission. He also emphasized that the Fed will be flexible with programs to rates hike and is confident about Fed’s tools to control rates effectively. He also noted that the Fed may need to relax US$300B on reverse-repo program cap after liftoff.”
