US CPI flat in July

The US consumer-price index was unchanged on a seasonally adjusted basis in July from the prior month, the Labor Department said Tuesday. The flat reading matched expectations and comes after a 0.2% rise in June.

Excluding volatile categories such as food and energy, consumer prices rose 0.1% in July, slightly below the 0.2% expected. From a year earlier, prices climbed 0.8% and core prices increased 2.2%.
